The BBC puts all their radio shows online these days, and a very good deal it is too. Personally I like the comedy selection that's available. Since you can only access what's been played in the last week, I can't give hard links to the best shows. But I can give a list of what I think is worth looking out for.
The self-styled antidote to panel games, clue has some of the funniest moments in radio comedy. There's not much to say about it; it's a group of people in a room being entertaining for half an hour. It's best to listen to the earlier ones first, if you can, but it doesn't really matter.
Another classic, and an incredibly long-running show. The format is simpler than clue and less chaotic. Four contestants try and talk on the given subject for a full minute without hesitation, repetition or deviation. It sounds boring, and it could be -- what makes it worthwhile isjv the wit and talent of the players. Definitely worth listening to.
This show is next on my list because there is true genius to be found here, if you're lucky. A guest picks six shows from the BBC archives. Naturally the standard is high, but what really sets it apart is the fact that you might hear something you've never heard before, and would never hear elsewhere. Some of the funniest and most brilliantly inspired moments of comedy of all time (well, more or less) are to be had right here.
Of the shows that are on at the moment, I also listen to The Cheese Shop Presents..., Dead Ringers, Hancock's Half Hour and Round the Horne. I'll try and keep this page up to date as the lineup changes.
