Composite Images

This was an idea that came to me recently, I can't think from where. What would it look like if you asked the internet for a large number of images on a particular subject, and merged them all?

Well, that's exactly what I did. All it took was a bit of perl scripting, some wget and a little Image Magick. Finally I used 'stretch HSV' in Gimpshop to un-grey the results.

Fire

I think this one worked best. It's a straightforward concept, and the resulting image is instantly recognisable.

Tree

This worked well. There's a definite tree quality to the image.

Love

Hmm. I'm not quite sure what conclusion can be drawn from this one.

Linux

Now for my favourite operating system, Linux. There's a lot of detail to pick out in this one. Paradoxically this is because many of the images didn't have much detail, being desktop screenshots.

America

What does the internet think of America? Hmm. America would appear to be in widescreen. Apart from that there isn't too much happening.

England

My home country apparently owes a great deal to Lietuvos.net. Who knew? I have to say this image is a pretty accurate depiction of England in the winter.

Art

Finally, the distilled wisdom of the Internet answers that age-old question: what is art?
